Residential Compliance and Regulatory
Lead and Copper-Risks, Testing, Resources
Lead can cause serious health problems if too much enters your body from drinking water and other sources. The greatest risk of lead exposure is to infants, young children, and pregnant women.
Under the authority of the Safe Drinking Water Act, the EPA requires all community water systems to measure lead and copper levels in their drinking water. Lead and Copper primarily enter drinking water systems through the corrosion of household plumbing materials.
Water systems conduct this sampling at residential water tap sites and should the water supply exceed the lead action level, the water system will take steps to correct the problem.
Residents who are concerned about the lead levels from their own taps can conduct private lead testing.
